Energy renovation of a Condo. The existing building was born in the 70s as a tribute to the famous Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier, but the architecture had lost its connotations over the years. The project with simple changes of material and technological solutions of the facade restores the sense of lightness and horizontality characteristic of the Villa Savoye without falling into a mere imitation of the famous architecture of the Swiss master.
The project constitutes a demolition of two small housing units and reconstruction with fusion and modification of the foot print of the building, aimed to the improvement of anti-seismic properties and energy efficiency. The regulation on site force us towards the U-shaped yeard solution, also suggested by the proportions of the lot, that recall those of the Roman “domus”. Therefore our intent was to create a small contemporary domus. The courtyard was partially enclosed by a parametric shading element that recalls Mediterranean architecture. The street facade, on the other hand, reinterprets the local architectural lenguages in a modern and flexible way, changing configuration according to the lighting conditions and the needs of the users and thanks to the sliding panels made by Apulian stone, horizontally oparable along a track, it allows you to change the privacy and the quantity of light and solar energy in the internal space. The interior follows a minimalist line in the furniture and in the choice of materials, in which resins and light plasters stand out, and the wood that warms and makes the environment more welcoming.
The project is based on the xlam wooden modular system and proposes aggregative studies of different modules to be used for a resort. We tested different options, but by the end it has been decided for a pitched solution, recolling chinese tradition and working on the expressive potential of wood, both as a structural material and as a finishing element. The luxury villa solution proposes the traditional Chinese patio typology around which are aggregated 3 rooms and a module for outdoor activities.
The project aims to create a place that moves from the topological figures of the site. It redraws the edges of the area, working on the relationship between public and private, as well as the creation of a sequence of spaces with different sizes and designed for different clusters of users. The project also introduces a double interpretation of space: one anthropological and one perceptive. Both of these figures aim to persuade users to a correct interpretation of the social sphere. The use of color and the interpenetration of the project with the rural space aim to stimulate the creativity of children. The technology used, the xlam, and the bioclimatic design of the modules aim at a reduction of costs and impacts.
This project draws inspiration from the project site, which is located right on the terraced side of an old mine, therefore tries to create a tectonic mass that seems to emerge harmoniously from the ground, like a rock sculpted over time. The functions are divided into two components, a podium, the true tectonic component of the project, which incorporates the terraces and organizes the interior spaces in relation to the exterior and the topography of the site, and the volumes of the rooms which are instead arranged in a linear on the upper front of the mine and enjoy the best view of the park below and the sea not far away.
An exception to the topographical character of the project is added with the volume of the conference center which unlike the other parts of the podium is suspended over the landscape in a sculptural way.
The entrance to the hotel takes place in two ways, one through the underground level, through a crack in the rock, and the other through a bridge that connects the double-height lobby with the street.
The project emerges from the pre-existing podium that host the more complex research functions, which due to their character, require to happens underground. This volume is then sculpted and raised and becomes a "belvedere" on the opposite river, and establishes a relationship with the water through playing with reflections from multiple points of view. The volumes on the podium are instead suspended and seem to emerge from the topology of the site: an axial tree system. The three volumes of offices create from canyons and differentiated views of the surrounding landscape, the volumes and the facade are characterized by a strong horizontality which together with the topographic and orographic character, define the whole project.
